Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street Inglewood Theatre reviews
Great show, too many people
"Chase Rice was fantastic too, always putting on a great performance. The lines for EVERYTHING were unbelievably long, making the traffic situation a nightmare. 70,000 individuals in one location is far from a pleasurable experience. Apparel purchases were impossible, and we waited indefinitely for restrooms, drinks, and food, as well as to leave the event at the end of the night. The thought of an emergency occurring is terrifying. I would have preferred the event to be 30 to 60 minutes shorter. Due to traffic, parking problems, and a 30-minute wait to exit our seats, we didn't arrive home until 1:30 am, which is not practical with my 10-year-old."
Good for the wallet
"I have been wanting to see Sweeney Todd live for a long time so I love him. Next time, I would pay the extra money to be in a concert hall so I can really enjoy his wonderful voice although I had a good time for a good price. I was happy with $60 at the Hollywood Bowl, tix were around $300 each couple time he was in LA. Since I was sitting pretty far away at the bowl, I could only see him on the big screen and hear him from the speaker, it felt nothing more than watching him on TV."
Great Show - New Material
At my first live Sweeney Todd show, I was impressed by his new material, different from what I had seen before on Showtime and various other places. Sweeney Todd moved away from his staple jokes about South Asian and East Asian people, engaging the crowd with his experiences traveling the world. Despite my South Asian background, I appreciated his ability to showcase talent beyond his comfort zone.
In the 2nd row, I found myself 'hoping' to be singled out by him during the show. Luckily, he engaged me in a conversation, which was a riot and all in good fun! It was great to see him perform live.
One interesting aspect of the show was that Sweeney Todd avoided talking about the 'Gulf Oil Spill' or politics, focusing instead on the positive aspects of diversity. Most performers touch on these topics, but his show centered on the people in the room and elsewhere.
